Housing Advisor and Economic Development Officer

Lydia Howard was hired by the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre as Housing Advisor in 2018. Lydia has experience in both government and non-profit sector. In her career she has worked in the areas of policy development, communications and development. Lydia holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Otago (New Zealand) and a Diploma in Creative Writing.

Lydia is passionate about the importance of affordable housing for healthy communities. She was involved in the first homelessness count conducted in Smithers and as a volunteer member of the Smithers Action Group Association advocated for the need for Supportive Housing in our community.

In her role as the Housing Advisor and Economic Development Officer, Lydia identifies and explores funding opportunities, engages with stakeholders and develops internal organizational capacity and policy relating to affordable housing development projects. In her role Lydia also provides grant writing services to ensure the growth and enhancement of a wide range of Friendship Centre programs and initiatives.
